Mike Davies OBE joins CBM UK

Former CBM Regional Director for South-East Asia and Pacific, Mike Davies OBE, has joined CBM UK as the Head of Programme Development.

Mike Davies' appointment as Head of Programme Development comes as CBM UK announces its project portfolio for 2010.

Mike's wealth of expertise in programme management comes with his first-hand experience of monitoring and evaluating nearly 80 local partner projects in countries including Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Philippines during his time as a CBM Regional Director based in Manila.

In addition, Mike works with the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a consultant for developing global guidelines for Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR).

Before joining CBM in 1993, he was a Chief Technical Adviser for the International Labour Organisation and worked as a disability consultant with UNICEF and the UN High Commission for Refugees. In 1990, he helped the government of Iran to set up rehabilitation services for war-disabled veterans of the Iran/Iraq war.

Whilst as Director of Rehabilitation Services in Zimbabwe, he drafted and saw through parliament, the War Victims Compensation Act.

In 1984, he was awarded the Henry Kessler Prize from Rehabilitation International for his work with disabled people in southern Africa.

In 2005, HRH Queen Elizabeth awarded him the OBE, in recognition of his 36 years of work with disabled people in developing countries.

Originally from Stockport, England, Mike is married to Elizabeth and they have three children.
