Deafness

50% of deafness is preventable!

The key to preventing the effects of hearing impairment is Education but so many deaf and hearing impaired children just don't get the chance to go to school.

Exclusion

Sadly, children who cannot hear are often thought to be intellectually impaired and unable to learn. This may seem incredibly harsh but in some communities, deaf or hearing impaired children are kept behind closed doors in a world of silence, without support and without an education.

Hearing impairment without special support can lead to frustration, which in turn can lead to anti-social behaviour resulting in further alienation from their community. For some, it can be a seemingly never-ending vicious circle.

The ability to communicate is a gift and one whose value cannot be overstated – especially for children.

CBM's Work

Through your donations, CBM has been able to provide specialised support enabling children who are deaf or hearing impaired, to participate in classroom activities and enjoy being part of their community.

Together with our project partners, we have been able to set up workshops and train staff to make Hearing Aids - avoiding the expense of importing them in from other countries and helping to build skilled local teams around the world.

Together we have supported so many deaf and hearing impaired children and adults and we can continue to do so with your help.
