Accessibility

We are committed to making the information and resources provided via our website accessible to the widest possible audience. To enable this, we follow widely accepted 'best practice' principles for design and usability. You can easily adjust the site in a number of ways to fit your needs.

Customise the site to fit your needs

In order to make this website easier to read and navigate, you can change display settings such as:

  • Text size
  • Colour and contrast
  • Screen magnification
  • Style sheets

The BBC's website "My Web My Way (BBC Website - open in new tab)" offers help on adjusting these and other features in your specific operating system and browser.

Standards compliance

The website is built using XHTML and CSS, according to W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) standards. It is designed to be in line with recognised best practice, such as the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

We have endeavoured to follow current Web Accessibility Initiative (W3C WAI) guidelines and look to ensure that Conformance Level "AA" all Priority 2 checkpoints are satisfied.

WCAG 1.0 has 14 guidelines that are general principles of accessible design. Each guideline has one or more checkpoints that explain how the guideline applies in a specific area. Further information is available on how the guidelines are organized.

Document Downloads

A number of documents are available on this site for download. Each document has the file size stated alongside it, allowing the user to estimate how long the file will take to download via their internet connection. The file type is also displayed, often as a application icon.

Some files are in PDF format and therefore the user may wish to install PDF reading software like Adobe Acrobat Reader (Adobe website - open link in new tab) which is freely available to download.

Whilst all attempts are made to ensure that downloaded files from this site do not contain any virus material, the user downloads files at their own risk. CBM will not be held liable for any data loss or damage made to any device as a result of downloading from our site or from any third party linked sites.

Screen Resolution

The site is best viewed in a browser window that is wider than 800 pixels.

Shaw Trust Accessibility Services

Shaw Trust Accessibility Services conducted an accessibility audit on CBM UK's website.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

We regularly change and update the content of the web site may mean that the site becomes non-compliant until the next review.

  • The video on the homepage does not have a transcript as there is no suitable place to host one within the current design. However, the video does have captions. This issue will be addressed when we launch our new site in 2024.
  • PDFs and other documents - Current accessibility regulations do not require us to update PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2023 if they’re not essential to providing our services. However, we are ensuring any new PDFs or documents we publish in the future will meet accessibility standards. If you have any issues in accessing older documents, please email us at info@cbmuk.org.uk and we’ll endeavour to provide the information in an alternative format.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Disproportionate burden

  • Users are unable to increase the size of text without the text overlapping other content. We cannot implement a fix within the currant website due to platform and design limitations. The site is due to be relaunched in 2024, where this issue will be addressed.

Feedback

We continue to make further improvements and enhancements to our accessibility features according to feedback. Please let us know of any problems you may have encountered, or of any features that you have found particularly useful. Contact us here.
