Makson's Story

Every minute a child becomes blind and, in developing countries, 60% of children die within one year of losing their sight.
When we met 2 year old Makson from Cameroon, he was blind. His mother Meldine had watched helplessly as her son's vision had slipped away.
For the last 18 months, Makson has been forced to spend hours each day clinging to his mother's back. He can't play games with the other children in the village or move around outside on his own.
"I cry when I see him fall down", she told us, "He will come back crying because he can't do it. He's very scared."
Meldine, although frightened for her son's safety, is doing her very best to raise her adventurous toddler. But without his sight, life is only going to get harder for them both.
A Transformed Life
A gift of £20 is all it takes to help someone like Makson to receive the sight-saving surgery they need to lead a fuller life.
CBM fieldworker, Joseph, was the one to find Makson and to refer him for treatment.
"All we need now is to find someone who will fund the life-changing operation that will remove his cataract and restore his sight", he told us.
Through a CBM-supported hospital in Cameroon, we were able to transform Makson's life by providing him with the surgery that he needed.
With your support, we can continue providing medical, support or rehabilitative intervention. We will be able to continue to help people like Makson to live free of blindness.
Please, just £20 can help transform a life today.
