Some children need a little extra help to stand on their own two feet.
Clubfoot isn't just difficult to look at, it's a painful, disabling condition that can disqualify children from anything like a normal life.
When you can't walk, how can you make the long daily journey to school and back? How can you join in a game of football? Or develop the independence that will one day enable you to 'stand on your own two feet'?
Blessings
Blessings is a two year old boy from Malawi and he suffers from severe clubfoot, which has caused his feet to turn in and down since birth. For him, trying to walk is just incredibly painful and difficult too.
If left untreated, Blessings will end up literally down in the dirt - unable to walk and left to scrabble around on his hands and knees with little hope or dignity. With your help though, we can help him and other children with clubfoot.
Desperation
Since her husband divorced her, Blessings' mother, Maria has to provide for Blessings and her four growing daughters by working her neighbours' land - for money or food. Sometimes when she has trouble feeding them, she starts to wonder 'why I had these children'. That's what 'desperate' feels like, yet thanks to CBM and our supporters, Maria's situation is not without hope.
Maria worries that without surgery, Blessings won't be able to go to school. How will he find work or become independent? One way or another Maria knows she could be carrying her son for life.
Surgery
After hearing about the MACHOHA orthopaedic clinic in Chintheche, run by a CBM partner - Malawi Council for the Handicapped, Blessings is now scheduled for surgery - afterwhich he should be able to walk and even run without pain - just like any other child.
