ebay for Charity

ebay for charity

CBM UK has signed up to 'ebay for Charity' - a collaboration between the well known online auction website, ebay.co.uk and its charity partner MissionFish.

CBM UK supporters are now able to make donations to us whilst selling their unwanted items. The list of items that you could sell on ebay is endless - including clothes, art, antiques, cds, ornaments, books, gadgets, furniture - you can even sell your car!! Think of it as a kind of huge online jumble sale - packed with hundreds of thousands of items and with just as many people looking out for bargains.

How does 'ebay for Charity' work?

'Ebay for Charity' is a scheme where eBay users can list their items for sale and whilst doing so, they can opt for a charity to receive a donation when their item sells. When the item is sold (usually after about seven days), a percentage between 10-100% (chosen by the seller) of the item's final selling price is then donated straight to the chosen charity. This donation does not cost the seller or the buyer anything extra.

How can I sell my items?

If you have never used eBay before, you will need to sign-up (for free!) at www.ebay.co.uk and follow the registration steps.

Ebay has recently changed the way that you sell items for charity - meaning that you will no longer need to register separately with MissionFish. You can learn more about selling for charity at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/community/charity/sellerinfo.html

ebay top tip

Our Online Manager has many years experience of using ebay and shares the following tip:

"The more unusual your item, the more likely it is to sell. Whilst a brand-new unwanted cd or dvd will more than likely sell - it is often up against a lot of competition from other sellers who have the same item. Never under-estimate the selling power of a dozen loose wooden doorknobs; a lonely 1970's side-plate; or an obscure vinyl record!".

Benefitting cbm

'Ebay for Charity' is a fantastic way to fundraise - you can raise money for us (and yourself too, if you want!), as well as being able to springclean those cupboards or even sell those unwanted gifts.

Remember, you will control the selling of the item on Ebay - so please do not send items to CBM offices. We're more than happy to give you advice on how to set up your item listing on Ebay.

So don't hesitate - start clearing those cupboards now!
