Sebastian from Haiti is praying that God will grow his leg back again

Sebastian, 8 years old, spent 3 days trapped in the rubble following the Haiti earthquake

Family members tried to pull him out, but they couldn't move the beam. Others wouldn't go in with them because they were afraid that the rest of the house would fall on them.

He was going up the stairs as the house fell down. The others in the house were killed. One of the bodies fell on Sebastian's foot and a support beam fell on top of the body. Sebastian was trapped for 3 days.

Saving Sebastian's Life

Sebastian's father is missing. His mother died on January 12. Now, the only person left in the world is his Auntie Roseloine.

She took Sebastian to a clinic where they dressed the foot and asked her to bring him back in 3 days, but his foot was already infected and starting to smell. Roseloine knew she couldn't wait, so instead she took her nephew to the hospital. They decided that the only way to save Sebastian's life was to amputate his leg.

"Sebastian is praying that God will grow his leg back again. Instead God sent him Liala, the CBM Physiotherapist to teach him to walk again."

Haiti - in for the long term

Haiti has been described by the UN as a "nation of amputees" and although CBM has been there since 1976, we will be there for the long term.

Our work will be continuing for the next 20 years and more, long after many of the emergency relief agencies have packed up and gone home. CBM's work is just beginning. We are committed to the people of Haiti for the next generation.
