1st Class People

David, from Ballyclare, has raised thousands of pounds for CBM over the last 12 months as well as helping to promote our work through community activies such as organising football tournaments. David won the Royal Mail's Fundraising Award in the regional finals for Northern Ireland.

Collecting his award, David said "I am absolutely delighted with the generosity of all my sponsors and for their support. It is humbling to receive this recognition, I did not do it for the publicity but if it highlights the work of CBM and brings in extra funding for them I am happy to oblige".

He was presented with his award from former GMTV star Lorraine Kelly and Royal Mail's Chief Executive, Adam Crozier.

A Fundraising Legend

In October 2007, David ran around Lough Neagh - the biggest lough in the UK in the first part of the legend of the giant Finn McCool (Fionn mac Cumhail), who is believed to have created the Lough when he scooped up a clump of soil. David ran for 113 miles, following cycle routes and footpaths that took him across five counties.

In June 2008, David joined more than 1,100 other people for the second part of his legendary challenge - a walk around the Isle of Man. The legend says that the soil Finn scooped up was thrown towards Scotland, landed in the sea and became the Isle of Man.

Motivation

David's father, Frank, is registered blind and so David has first-hand experience of caring for someone who cannot see. "Dad has never allowed his blindness to stop him living his life but I know how hard it must be for people already living in poverty to be blind on top of everything they're going through".
