Cyclists raise money for eye care in Nigeria
Three cyclists from Western Health and Social Care Trust (N.Ireland) have started a fund-raising campaign to help set up much-needed eye-care services for children in an eye hospital in Kano, Nigeria.
The trio - Rosie Brennan, Patrick McGirr and Chris Devlin, will be embarking on a marathon cycle from Mizen Head to Malin Head (one end of Ireland to the other), raising awareness and sponsorship along the way.
With a target of £10,000, they are set to make a real impact on the lives of those who face living in poverty with their disability - supporting the work of Vision 2020 and this year's World Sight Day.
About World Sight Day
World Sight Day is an international awareness day, organised by the Vision 2020: Right to Sight. This year the theme of 'Gender and Eye Health - equal access to care' will be marked on October 8th. It aims to highlight the need for greater access to sight-saving health care for women and girls, who often miss out.
Did you know that women and girls make up nearly two thirds of the population of people who are blind?
The Vision 2020 initiative was formed in collaboration between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), together with leading eye care organisations - including CBM.
