David Young, a physiotherapist from Impington, Cambridge, has flown out to assist CBM's work in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in the wake of the powerful earthquake that devastated the area on January 12.
David will be working as part of CBM's Emergency Team, providing essential rehabilitation to those who have received crush and limb injuries or amputations as a result of the quake, or who were already disabled and are in need of support.
The CBM-supported Centre d'Education Special (P614) was reduced to rubble during the earthquake, and sadly there were two casualties amongst its staff.
The building will have to be demolished - leaving a huge gap in the provision of essential education and rehabilitation for children and adults with disabilities. In the meantime, CBM and its partner aim to establish Day Care Centres to provide basic treatment and support.
CBM has worked with local partners in Haiti since 1976.
David most recently worked with CBM and one of its local partner in Tanzania.
