CBM is proud to announce that it helped over 36 million people in 2011
With the 2011 figures now collated, CBM are incredibly proud to announce that it helped over 36 million people in 2011 - a new record for CBM.
CBM UK's Head of Programmes, Mike Davies OBE said "This is an achievement made possible by the combined efforts of CBM and our local partner organisations, with generous ongoing support from our network of individual and corporate donors. While the marked increase in the number of people helped is in part due to our expanded programmes for the treatment of river blindness and other neglected tropical diseases, it also points to a diversification of our services on the ground in the fields of health, education, livelihood development and social inclusion."
In 2011, CBM performed over 900,000 operations and dispensed over 1 million assistive devices. CBM carried our more than one cataract operation every minute of every day, and issued 850 spectacles, hearing aids, or orthopaedic devices to children every day of the year - helping them to see, hear or move about better.
This is an achievement made possible by the combined efforts of CBM and our local partner organisations, with generous ongoing support from our network of individual and corporate donors. " - Mike Davies OBE (Head of Programmes, CBM UK)
CBM not only works to treat existing conditions, but also to prevent the causes of disabilities. Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) such as River Blindness and Trachoma are examples of these; and CBM's community mass eye treatment campaigns have reached millions of people.
