CBM’s Regional Director for South East Asia and Pacific Region is to meet Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, The Princess Royal today, 18 March, in Ormoc City, Philippines following an invitation by Save the Children (open link in new tab).

Rainer Guetler, CBM’s Regional Director will attend a lunch reception in honour of HRH The Royal Princess, attended by representatives of Save the Children’s partners in the Philippines. The Princess Royal has been the president of Save the Children since 1970.

CBM has an on-going project with Save the Children to provide access to quality and inclusive education for vulnerable children affected by Typhoon Haiyan in western Leyte. The project will benefit 6,000 primary school children, rebuild and repair 60 classrooms in 20 schools, provide assistive devices to children with disabilities, and train teachers on inclusive education.

Mr Guetler said, “We are happy to partner with Save the Children on this project. CBM works with like-minded organisations to promote inclusive education in national and regional policies and programs. We support partners to provide quality education to children with disabilities, and provide technical support through our network of education advisors.”

In November 2013, Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda and one of the most powerful storms ever recorded, swept over the Philippines. Over 6000 people died and 14 million were affected. CBM is still on the ground working with people with disability to rebuild their lives and communities. The focus is now on long term recovery activities which include addressing Community Mental Health and psychological needs, and promoting disability inclusive reconstruction.
