Two Sore Feat

On 13th April 2008, two fundraisers began their 26 mile run through the streets of London, joined by thousands of others and passing some of the capital's best known landmarks.

Race Running has been one of our most successful and popular means of fundraising with recent runners raising thousands of pounds for CBM UK.

Personal Best

Peter Saunders of St Albans, Hertfordshire, and Sarah Howard of London, both completed the Flora London Marathon and between them, they have raised more than £11,500 to help us continue our work in the Developing World.

Peter, who is the General Secretary for the Christian Medical Fellowship, told us;

"I made it! The last six miles along the Embankment were tough but I managed to finish in 3 hours, 34 minutes - an improvement of almost 8 minutes on my personal best in 2005".

Ambition

Meanwhile, Sarah (new to the London Marathon) told us what it was like to run as a 'newbie'.

"Running the London Marathon has always been an ambition and I thought CBM would be a great charity to raise money for. Only a minimal amount of money is spent on administrative costs, so I knew the money I raised would really help where it is needed most. This made all the training well worth it".

Motivation

When looking at what motivated these two fundraising champs, Sarah told us;

"When the pain on the marathon day got bad, I just closed my eyes and remembered the blind people who the money was going to help. I genuinely don't think I could have made it round without knowing it was all for such a good cause".

"Running for CBM was a huge incentive to keep going through the hard grind of training and the race itself and I've been overwhelmed by people's generosity and support", Peter adds.

Benefits of JustGiving and Gift Aid

Both Peter and Sarah used JustGiving to collect sponsorship money and publicise their support of CBM.

JustGiving enabled them to collect sponsorship online with credit and debit cards and in addition to this, they were also able to collect Gift Aid for us - an additional amount that can be claimed by CBM at no extra cost to the sponsor.

Between them, they enabled CBM to claim more than £1,500 back, at no extra cost. That's 'free' money for us!
