Washline's Journey

Washline Jorcine has come an incredible way since being caught in the rubble left by the devastating earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti in January 2010.

Washline is 9 years old and lives in Port-au-Prince. She was trapped in the rubble left by the earthquake that devastated her home. She suffered a fractured femur when a piece of the wall of her house fell on her. Despite this, and after months of treatment, her spirit has remained strong and she is full of hope for the future.

"When the earthquake came, my school was over, and I was at home. My house broke and the walls fell on me. When the ground started to shake, I was afraid" - Washline

Washline received crutches and physiotherapy treatment from CBM in one of many makeshift emergency tented wards set-up amongst the rubble.

Today, she has given them back to the clinic so that they can help someone who needs them more than her. She is smiling and full of dreams of becomming a nurse - "so that when I get older I can help people in the same way that CBM helped me".

Long-term Treatment

Washline has returned to school and home is temporarily a donated tent by the side of the road which she shares with her brother and parents. However, after her leg injury has fully healed, CBM will continue to provide care and support as she comes to terms with the loss of her school friends.

Together with our partners we continue to provide essential treatment and rehabilitation services to those who need it for the long term.

CBM has been working with partners in Haiti since 1976. We'll be there for generations to come.
