A programme offering vocational training for those who are deaf, deafblind and visually impaired.
Supported by CBM since 1974, the Agricultural Training Centre for the Blind and Deaf at Sikiri in the rural South Nyanza province, offers a range of vocational training programmes to those from very poor backgrounds.
Training programmes include agriculture, animal husbandry and farming - enabling deaf, deafblind, and visually impaired people to develop income generating life skills. Other skills in carpentry, weaving, basket making, rop and mat making are also taught.
Students in their third year undertake work placements and are subject to a follow-up programme.
Between January and June 2010, the programme planted 8 acres of land and raised around 200 chickens.
