A comprehensive eye care department reaching out to those most at need.
The ophthalmology department at the Catholic University of Graben was founded in 1989, at the request of the local population, which stands today at around 2 million.
The project offers screening, eye surgery, refraction testing as well as glasses to those in need. Patients who are identified as blind are then referred for further support as well as mobility and orientation training. The project also offers advice on preventative measures, helping the population to avoid sight related problems.
In recent years, the project has undertaken more than 18,000 consultations each year.
We support the project's running costs as well as essential medicines, consumables and equipment.
The project collaborates with a similar CBR programme - RBC Université Catholiqué du Graben (P2434) which we also support.
