A programme delivering comprehensive treatment and training to some of the poorest parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Situated in the Bas Congo province, this project serves a large department within the Institut Médical Evangélique de Kimpese - a large treaching hospital about three hours drive from Kinshasa. It is a cooperative project between CBM and a number of Protestant Churches.
A comprehensive outreach programme has been developed and serves three districts - namely Cataractes, Lukaya and Matadi with a total of 18 satellite centres in the surrounding rural area, reaching an extremely poor population of around 1.3 million people, with cataract affecting almost 7,000 of those people.
The programme performed 6,109 vision related consultations between January and June 2010.
