A school providing education and vocational training to children with hearing impairments in the Central Province of Kenya.
The Tumutumu School for hearing impaired children is a small residential school for around 70 students. It has steadily risen through school performance rankings each year and now has a reputation as a school of excellence.
The school not only provides primary education, but also vocational training in a range of skills including cabinet making, carpentry, joinery, tailoring and knitting.
The school has developed a large farm that helps provide agricultural training and teaches students in the care of livestock.
CBM has supported the school since 1975, and today it provides regular grants that allow it to hold seminars for parents and teach sign language to parents, as well as covering monthly operational and administration costs.
The school is proactive in improving employment opportunities for its students. It attends annual shows that enable students to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace.
