Essential eye health services for around 2.2 million Ethiopians.

The Yirga Alem Hospital is run by our partner Southern Nations Nationalities Peoples Region (SNNPR) Health Bureau and includes a separate eye unit which was constructed with CBM support.

The eye unit consists of 12 beds and an operating theatre, and provides comprehensive eye care services both at the hospital and also via outreach campaigns.

The unit has increased its capacity to supply low cost and high quality spectacles to the local population.

Annually, the eye unit conducts around 1,000 cataract surgeries and 400 trachoma operations.
