Founded in 1894, the Dr Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College Hospital's main objective is to improve the access of persons with disabilities into the community. The project provides essential medical treatment and rehabilitation as well as community-based approaches.
CBM supports community-based rehabilitation (CBR), the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department, the Eye Department, and a psychosocial rehabilitation programme. In this region alone, there are 1-2 million people living with disabilities.
The project is particularly interested in the early identification of, and intervention in childhood disability. Disabilities such as clubfoot can be treated extremely easily when identified at an early stage.
