Schieffelin Leprosy Research and Training Centre (SLRTC) is a premier leprosy centre in Asia, located in Karigiri, Tamil Nadu and covering Guidiyatham Taluk and Walajah Taluk, also in Tamil Nadu, as well as part of the bordering Chittor district in Andrha Pradesh State.
SLRTC has transformed itself into a general hospital with CBM supporting the eye department. The department provides treatment and cure for various eye disorders like cataract, ocular leprosy and refractive errors.
In 2008, more than 6,500 people were screened for vision related impairments.
A Community Eye Care Service (CECS) has developed into a fully-fledged wing that researches and provides eye care services to those in poverty, through field workers and eye screening camps.
