A unique project run by and for people with disabilities.
This community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programme is run by the Association of Disabled Persons of Iloilo (ADPI). The project is unique in that it was formulated, founded, managed and staffed entirely by people with disabilities.
The project operates a production cooperative making school furniture for the government, after realising that many people with disabilities in the province were in need of help. The programme began in 2007, with CBM support from 2008.
The project serves people with all kinds of impairments, and works closely with the local government in visual and hearing screening, referrals for treatment and other services, skills training, the provision of mobile devices, and community mental health work.
There is a strong emphasis on advocacy for inclusion, and the forging of local partnerships to help provide services.
