Elizabeth Wright

Elizabeth 'Liz' Wright is CBM UK's Sports Ambassador.

In 1993 it was announced that Sydney had won the right to host the 2000 Olympic (and subsequently the Paralympic) games. Upon hearing this, Elizabeth Wright told her parents that she would compete in those games as a swimmer; her parents indulged her fancy and thought nothing more of it.

Australian born Elizabeth, with a congenital limb deficiency, then began the journey to achieving her dreams, not imagining the incredible journey she would take to compete at the Sydney games, nor the impact such a journey would have on the rest of her life.

Liz won a bronze olympic medal at Atlanta in 1996 for her 50 metre butterfly, and in Sydney she won a silver medal for her 400 metre freestyle, and a bronze medal as part of the Australian women's team in the 4x 50 metre freestyle relay.

Liz was honored to be an Ambassador over several years for the Australia Day campaign, and she has used her role as a Paralympian to encourage school children to set about achieving their dreams.

Liz now works closely with CBM, raising awareness about our work whilst telling her truly inspirational story at schools and events throughout the UK.
