A child receives early stimulation activities.
Project Number: P2471
The Community Based Rehabilitation programme provides nationwide rehabilitation, education, advocacy and networking services for persons with disabilities. The project works in close collaboration with the Belize Council for the visually impaired and local Disabled People’s Organisations (DPO’s)
Rehabilitation Services use the Community Based Rehabilitation model, which allows the project to reach an average of 150 children each month countrywide.
In addition to the rehabilitation, the project also makes low cost adaptive equipment and distributes wheelchairs to help increase the mobility of people with physical impairment.
Education is provided on a one-to-one basis for family members. The project meets with parents to explain about the rights of their children. The project also has a disability resource centre which is available to the public.
The project works hard on advocacy and has helped assist in organizing summer camps for parents to help develop and strengthen support groups. The project also goes into High Schools to give presentations on disability to help raise awareness amongst the local population.
The project liaises with government ministries like the Ministry of Health, Education and Human Development to organise clinics and work toward a comprehensive coverage of disability issues.
