The 'Centre Mpandilu, Kananga' is a school for the deaf and intellectually impaired, located in the city of Kananga in the Central Province of Kasai. The project is made up of seven centres which are integrated into the educational department of the Archdiocese of Kananga. The project focuses on special education, partly combined with vocational training measures.
The overall aim is the social integration of the children and young adults into their society. To help with this, there is an active inclusion of parents into the rehabilitative activities.
At present, there are 28 teachers and approximately 350 children benefiting from the project. Due to its size, the project plays an important role in the local expression of the needs and rights of people with disabilities.
