This eye care programme is now situated in Kisangani town, on the borders of the Congo River in the eastern part of the country, having been relocated from Yakusu. The project now potentially covers a population of 700,000 people.
The project experienced many difficulties setting up due to the post-war situation in Kisangani and also due to the location of the Yakusu project in the periphery of Kisangani - which made it inaccessible to many patients.
To address this problem, the project has been relocated and is now a centre for 3 eye care projects in the city and is being integrated into the comprehensive programme for disabilities - COPEHA.
