The Centre for the Blind is the largest residential school in India for the visually impaired. It covers the twin cities of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai in the southern part of Tamil Nadu state.
The school provides primary and secondary education with some students receiving additional vocational training in notebook making, weaving and tailoring after school.
Most of the successful trainees are employed in the Production Centre run by the school.
The project provides much needed rehabilitation services; a talking book library; Braille printing and mobility training.
