School for the Deaf

Project Partner: Malagasy Lutheran Church
Project Number: 1793

This school for children with hearing impairments is located in the town of Morondava on the east coast of Madagascar which is about 450Km from the capital of Antananarivo. The school was built in 1994 and currently accommodates 55 primary education students. When students have finished their primary education, they are sent to study technical skills such as woodcraft and needle work.

The school aims to enable their students to become fully independent individuals who are able to earn a living and communicate with their families. The school runs education classes for the student's parents to enable them to better communicate with their children.

This is a very impoverished area of a poor country that has limited facilities for hearing impaired children.
