A 'Prevention of Blindness' programme, run by Fundacion APRECIA, is attached to the blind school and rehabilitation centre.
Financed by CBM since 1998, a total of 289 cataract surgeries were performed in 2005. Screening and referral services have been established by APRECIA in three of Santa Cruz's main suburbs, as well as an outreach programme in the Department of Santa Cruz.
In 2006, CBM co-financed an extension of the clinic.
