Programa OYE BOLIVIA para la Prevencion del Deficit Auditivo en el Depto

Project Number: P2425

CBM’s partner Fundación Totaí, a Christian NGO, is located in Trinidad, Bolivia. They provide medical and social services to the very poor rural and urban population of the Amazon department of Beni (Population 406.982, area 200.000 km²).

The project offers medical services include primary health consultations, children vaccinations, and ENT services (including audiology). Additionally, Fundación Totaí develops a community health programme, which covers remote outlying populations of the department.

Between 1998 and 2000, a huge measles outbreak spread across the country; the under 5 year age group was the most affected. In 2000, rubella outbreaks behaved in a similar epidemiological manner to the measles outbreak. In July 2000, application of the MMR vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella was included in the regular immunization scheme for the population aged 12 to 23 months old.

Fundación Totaí is the only existing programme providing ear health services for the poor population in Bolivia.
