World Sight Day 2009
Did you know that two thirds of blind people worldwide are women and girls?
It's a startling fact that in some countries this is because men are twice as likely to access eye care services.
With the right strategies in place, this could change. In a bid to address this issue, the theme for World Sight Day 2009 is 'Gender and Eye Health', which aims to highlight the importance of equal access to care by both women and men.
How can I help?
As one of the founding members of the Vision 2020 initiative, CBM UK is marking World Sight Day and asks you to help us to raise awareness and funds on this global awareness day.
There are a number of ways that you can help us make a difference by doing something to raise money - like a sponsored bike ride; a knit-a-thon; holding a dinner party in the dark or simply collecting loose change.
CBM supporters in Scotland are holding 'The biggest tea party since Boston' and we are encouraging people across the world to join together for 'Share A Prayer' at 20:20 (8.20pm local time).
The easiest way to raise and collect money for an event, is to do it online via JustGiving.com. They will automatically process the credit/debit card and Paypal payments and the all important Gift Aid. They'll also pay it straight into CBM's bank account via a secure payments system.
Alternatively, you can download one of our CBM Sponsorship Forms (495Kb).
