Ebola – life-saving information for people with disabilities

Country: Sierra Leone
Category: Emergency response

The deadly outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in West Africa during 2014 and 2015 left over 10,000 people dead.

In Sierra Leone, one of the worst affected countries, the Government identified public awareness as the top priority to protect individuals and control the outbreak. However, initially no education activities were developed to include people with disabilities, leaving them at higher risk.

CBM responded rapidly with our established partner in the country to develop disability-inclusive health information in five local languages, including audio and video materials. We reached 140,000 people with disabilities, their families and communities helping to protect them from this devastating situation.
