Improving child eye health in Tanzania

Country: Tanzania
Category: Saving sight

There are 1.4 million blind children in the world and about 40% of the causes of childhood blindness are preventable or treatable. Poor eye sight has a huge impact on a child’s education and economic future.

In Tanzania, there are major gaps in eye health services for children. This programme will reach an estimated 60,000 children under the age of 15, by:

  • identifying children with eye conditions through school and community screening
  • treating children who have eye conditions, ranging from providing glasses to cataract surgery.
