Jean-Baptiste became blind last year because of cataracts. He lives in one of the poorest communities in the world, and the cost of the surgery to remove his cataracts is simply way beyond his means.

But, thanks to CBM supporters, earlier this year Jean-Baptise underwent cataracts surgery to regain his sight. When Jean-Baptiste arrived at the eye clinic, he was so excited. He had lived in fear and darkness for so long, and the journey to the clinic had been difficult.

Jean-Baptiste was excited to finally be in the hospital because it had been a very long and hard journey for him. Permanent blindness was a constant source of anxiety for Jean-Baptiste.

The day after Jean-Baptiste’s surgery when the eye patches were removed, he was smiling and laughing, “Thank you!” he said. Jean-Baptiste’s son Leonard had brought him on the long journey to the hospital. He was guiding Jean-Baptiste gently who used his stick to feel the way forwards. But when they left together, Jean-Baptiste could see clearly and walk without help. He stood tall and proud.

But there are so many more people like Jean-Baptiste who cannot afford the surgery and who cannot afford the transport to get to an eye clinic.

Please, will you make a generous gift today so that more people like Jean-Baptiste can have the sight-saving surgery they need?

Until December 31st, every £1 you give unlocks £4 more. One gift, five times the impact.

Funds raised up to £400,000 by 31st December 2019 will be maximised in value through our funding partner. In the event of surplus donations, any unspent funds, which are not subject to the above-mentioned unlocking arrangements, will be used to support similar CBM projects where the need is greatest.
