Light Up Lives

Worldwide, a shocking 3 in 4 people who are blind don’t need to be.

Every day, people living in the world’s poorest places become needlessly blind because of conditions that could be easily treated, like cataracts.

And too often, if you live in a poor community, losing your sight also means losing the chance to go to school, live independently or earn a living.

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, but can be treated with an operation costing as little as £24 and taking just 15 minutes.

Thank you for helping us to Light up Lives by helping people in the world’s poorest places to see again. With sight-restoring surgery, eye treatments and glasses, your gift can help them go to school, get around safely and support themselves and their families.

Every £1 given to Light up Lives before midnight on Thursday 28th April 2022 was DOUBLED.

Thank you for your support.

Low Vision therapist Bernard tests four-year-old Novellah's vision in her right eye after cataract surgery in Uganda.

The difference your gift will make

Your donations will help Light up Lives for people living in the world’s poorest places by:

  • improving access to sight-restoring cataract surgery and treatment for blinding conditions like glaucoma.
  • reaching people at risk of blindness in remote areas, far from the nearest eye hospital, helping them access treatment before it is too late.
  • providing glasses and support to people with low vision so they can go to school, earn a living and be active in their communities.
  • equipping hospitals, training local staff and partnering with local organisations to strengthen eye health systems to ensure the maximum long-term benefit.

And your donation will doubled, reaching even more people in Nigeria, Zimbabwe and other programmes supporting people living in poverty.
