Change a child's life

Change a child's life

Your gift can give a brighter future to a child like Umar

Umar shouldn't have to go permanently blind from cataracts.

But that's the reality faced by his family because there isn't enough affordable healthcare in their remote district of Nepal.

Cataracts affect thousands of children worldwide, but if they can't be removed in time, children can go permanently, irreversably, blind.

Umar's life is only getting started. Your gift can give children like him a brighter future.

With your help, more children like Umar in the world's poorest places will receive the sight-saving treatment they urgently need, giving them a greater chance to carve their path in life.

Will you help save the sight of a child like Umar?

Umar, a little boy, sits as his mum next to him straightens out his trousers around his knees.

Why your gift is needed today

Every day in the world's poorest places, children like Umar go blind. Cataracts are easy to remove - if you can afford surgery.

For small children like Umar, cataracts stop them from going to school, learning, playing with friends, and seeing their families.

And if the cataracts aren't removed in time, the long term effects are disastrous. It can become impossible to save their sight and the child can go blind - forever.

Tackling blindness now and in the future

Working closely with the Nepal National Society for Comprehensive Eye Care, we will deliver a project to tackle avoidable blindness until 2027.

The project will deliver immediate treatment and care and establish long-term change - with new care centres and staff training.

Over the next four years, we aim to screen 627,000 people and perform 23,950 eye surgeries - including at least 3,000 on children.

A little boy sits on his mum's lap and smiles as a eye health worker looks at his eyes.

Yes, I will give

and help save the sight of many more children like Umar - today, tomorrow and in the future.
