See the Change

Witness how your support changes lives in Malawi

Thank you for going “behind the scenes” with us at our sight-saving projects in Malawi, southern Africa, to witness the difference that your support is making for people living needlessly blind.

“It has been a truly life-changing few days for the 60 men and women who have had their sight restored this week. Thanks to your support, they are now able to get around independently, cook and care for themselves. But the impact of your support doesn’t stop there. Because the training and equipment being provided through our project means that, in future, many more people will be able to access treatment here in Nkotakota.” - Frank Maliko, Project officer

See the Change in one week...

Follow day-by-day updates from a week’s “cataract outreach” in rural Nkhotakota district, where over 60 people blind from cataracts will have sight-restoring surgery.

A white dashed line

Hear from the medical team who are taking vital eye health services into rural areas, far from the nearest eye hospital, and meet men and women who finally have the chance to see again after years of avoidable blindness.

A white dashed line

See the long-term impact our project will have by training and equipping teams in the rural district. So that many more people will be able to access the care they need to restore and protect their sight.

UK Aid Match logo

In 2020, CBM supporters donated an amazing £1,320,921 to help people in the world’s poorest places See the Way to a brighter future. Every pound was then doubled by the UK government. This match funding is delivering a 3-year project in Malawi to improve access to eye health services in rural districts, including through cataract outreach camps, providing equipment and training eye health workers.

See the Change week is an initiative to report back on the project’s impact at its half way point, focussing on a week’s cataract outreach camp. Because of challenges of working live from a busy hospital environment and the need to safeguard patient privacy, See the Change week material was pre-recorded over one week and will be shared day-by-day to show how the week unrolled for patients and staff.
