In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to leave a gift in your Will, what it means for your chosen charity, and how your legacy can help transform lives.
What Is a Legacy Gift?
A legacy gift (or gift in a Will) is a donation left to a charity in your Will. It’s a way to continue supporting a cause you believe in, even after your lifetime.
There are a few common types:
Specific gift – a particular item (e.g. property or stocks)
Residuary gift – a share of your estate after other gifts and expenses
Pecuniary gift – a fixed amount of money

How to leave a gift in your Will
Write or update your Will with a solicitor or Will-writing service
- The National Free Wills Network provides a quick and easy way for you to make or amend an existing Will for free with a solicitor local to you.
- Octopus Legacy offers a step-by-step process to make your Will in person, over the telephone, or online with on-hand support. Choose from either face-to-face, phone or their online Will writing service.
Include the charity’s full name and details, including:
Charity name: CBM UK
Registered charity number: 1058162 (England & Wales) and SC041101 (Scotland)

Decide the type of gift (residuary, pecuniary, specific)
Let your loved ones know your wishes
