Inclusion Revolution

People with disabilities, the world’s largest minority, are routinely excluded: denied access to education, healthcare, livelihoods. Why? Societies were designed by people without disabilities, who did not consult everyone.

What’s our idea?

Governments have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which should protect the rights of people with disabilities.

Those in power lack awareness, know-how and/or resources to remove deeply-embedded barriers to inclusion.

It’s a massive systemic problem, requiring a bold solution.

Together we’ll spark an Inclusion Revolution, harnessing the immense potential of activists and advisors with disabilities. No longer will others speak and decide for people with disabilities.

With our partners, CBM Global has already achieved changes in policy and practice; opening doors for tens of thousands of people with disabilities.

Now it’s time to scale up, to reach millions. We’ll combine our proven approaches to rights-based disability inclusion advocacy and advice, including coordinated training, mentoring, resources and quality standards.

Thousands of people with disabilities, networked across Africa, Asia and Oceania, will stand up to change mindsets, influencing inclusive policies and practices across the whole system, from local employers to UN agencies.

Why is it innovative?

Ownership: Inclusion Revolution is original because people with disabilities are leading it.

Experience and Expertise: Where other disability inclusion advocacy and advisory initiatives might engage either lived experience or professional expertise, Inclusion Revolution combines both to achieve the best results.

Diverse and Adaptive: There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to systemic exclusion. Inclusion Revolution will enable diverse individuals with disabilities to develop a variety of professional expertise according to their aptitudes and interests.

Coordinated: We’ll combine the different strengths of proven advocacy and in-demand advisory approaches to reach everyone from grassroots organisations to national and international actors.

Where will we work?

We want to see our Inclusion Revolution spread across our networks in Africa, Asia and Oceania.

Who will our partners be?

For decades, we’ve promoted self-advocacy by supporting networks of Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPDs) – including African Disability Forum and Pacific Disability Forum.
