Advent Blog Series 2023

Join us in prayer this Advent as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas. For each Sunday in Advent, we have chosen a bible verse for personal reflection, and written a short prayer.

First Sunday in Advent, 3 December

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6

Father, on this first Sunday in Advent, we want to thank you for the hope we have in Jesus Christ. As we celebrate his coming over 2000 years ago, lift our hearts to see the light and life He brings into our world today.

Second Sunday in Advent, 10 December

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” – John 1:14

Father, on this second Sunday in Advent we thank you for sending your son Jesus to dwell amongst us. Please help us to walk in his footsteps and show love in action to those around us.

Third Sunday in Advent, 17 December

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” – Luke 4:18

Jesus, on this third Sunday Advent, our hearts rejoice as we celebrate the Good News. Thank you for coming to heal the broken hearted and save that which is lost. We have joy and hope because of you.

Fourth Sunday in Advent, 24 December

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – John 14:27

Father, on this fourth Sunday in Advent, we quiet our hearts before you. Thank you that you are our peace and in you we have everything we need. Help us to share the comfort we have in you with those around us.

Christmas Day, 25 December

“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you: he is the Messiah, the Lord.” – Luke 2:10-11
