Madagascar Emergency Appeal

Thousands of lives have been devastated by tropical storms in southern Madagascar.

Help us rebuild homes, schools and lives today.

People with disabilities have lost their homes and their livelihoods

Two successive tropical storms – Storm Honde and Storm Jude – have had a catastrophic impact on the lives of people living in southern Madagascar. Over 100,000 people have been affected, with 32,000 people displaced from their homes.

This is not the first time that Zoenaomby (pictured above), and his family, have experienced the destruction caused by extreme weather. In 2022, in the wake of drought and food shortages, the generosity of supporters like you meant that he was able to buy seeds and livestock, and feed his family.

But as the storm tore through their town this year, it destroyed the family home – and everything they’d worked so hard to recover.

Homes destroyed. Schools flooded.

The destruction is not limited to family homes. Over twenty schools have been destroyed, and a school which supports children with disabilities, especially blind children, has been flooded.

When disasters like these strike, people with disabilities frequently miss out on warnings, and face barriers to accessing humanitarian aid – and are four times more likely to lose their lives.

We must continue to implement our emergency response. Together, with your support and the dedicated work of our local partners, we can rebuild more homes and schools, and make sure that people with disabilities do not get left behind.

Your support means that we can be there for people with disabilities when disaster strikes. Please, make your urgent gift today and help rebuild the homes and lives of people in Madagascar.

Our impact

People with disabilities are being pushed to the edge of survival, cut off from the support they desperately need. We are working with local partners to build resilience.

Together, we will make sure that people living with disabilities are not left behind in times of disaster.

With your support, we can help those in the most vulnerable circumstances in times of crisis.

Help bring hope to families living in crisis

As climate change increases the risk of humanitarian crises, we stay committed to ensuring that people with disabilities are included in any emergency response.
