CBM opens Country Office in Zimbabwe
On 17 May, CBM Global opened its new Zimbabwe Country Office in Harare. CBM UK’s Kirsty Smith joined CBM Global’s Zimbabwe team, along with representatives of organisations of people with disabilities, our partners, the Zimbabwean government and national press at the opening event, celebrating many years of CBM’s work in Zimbabwe.
CBM has been working with partners in Zimbabwe since 1974, preventing blindness, improving health and transforming the lives of people with disabilities. Kirsty Smith, who was travelling in Zimbabwe in May visiting our life-changing projects, was able to attend the Country Office opening in person. Broadcast live on national television, Kirsty celebrated the vision for CBM’s work:
“We are a federation cemented by shared values and shared vision. We seek to be a locally led local organisation. People with disabilities in Zimbabwe know best their context, they know best the solutions to those problems. We want to transform lives and build inclusive communities where everyone can thrive and seize best opportunities.”
Kirsty shared the ribbon-cutting with Greaterman Chivandire, CBM Global’s Country Director in Zimbabwe, and representatives of the Zimbabwean government. Also speaking at the event, Dr Edmos Mtetwa, from the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare said, “The government of Zimbabwe is embracing the national disability inclusive agenda to transform our society into a more inclusive one… Turning to our development partners, CBM included, we are aware of a number of milestones they have achieved.” Read more coverage of this event in Zimbabwean newspaper, The Herald (opens in new link The Herald).
We are delighted to celebrate the opening of this new office alongside our colleagues in Zimbabwe. Together with our partners, we look forward to continuing our work transforming the lives of people with disabilities in Zimbabwe.
