Case studies

Our advisory services help organisations embed disability inclusion into real-world programmes, policies, and systems.

Examples of our work

We’ve provided technical support and strategic guidance to international and national organisations across the development and humanitarian sectors. Each engagement is tailored to the local context, informed by lived experience, and delivered in collaboration with organisations of persons with disabilities.

CAFOD

We worked alongside CAFOD in Nigeria to provide in-country support and mentorship to implementing partners. In close partnership with local OPDs, we supported them to integrate disability inclusion into gender justice and safeguarding frameworks and programming.

We also provided Helpdesk-style support to CAFOD teams in Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone and Afghanistan to review disability inclusion across programme design, implementation and analysis. We offered detailed recommendations and delivered virtual workshops to support their practical application.

World Vision UK

We supported World Vision UK to strengthen disability inclusion across programming and policy work. This included tailored training and a virtual workshop, alongside strategic advice on mainstreaming inclusion across organisational operations, programme models, communication and advocacy approaches.

SCIAF and NIRAS

We helped Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) in Rwanda and NIRAS in Zambia to embed disability inclusion within Climate Just Communities projects. This included integrating inclusive approaches throughout programme design and implementation and working closely with national OPDs to ensure meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in climate resilience and community-led adaptation efforts.

Tearfund

We worked with Tearfund to review and strengthen disability inclusion across policy documents, programme and advocacy activities. This included field audits in Ethiopia and India to inform practical improvements and organisational learning.

“They challenged our whole organisation to think critically about disability inclusion, equipping us with language, tools and understanding to make step changes across different parts of the organisation. CBM also gave bespoke training to our International Programmes team, which not only helped the team but enabled us to cascade knowledge and new perspectives to our international partners and to better integrate disability inclusion into existing policies, tools and documentation.”

Our expertise in action

A recent learning paper, prepared by our CEO, demonstrates how a disability inclusive approach to climate adaptation in Zambia can empower people with disabilities to be active agents of change. It’s a practical example of the steps to achieve long-term, systemic change.
