At CBM UK ( Global Disability Inclusion) we are deeply concerned by the UK Government decision to cut its contribution to international development aid.

We know the difference this support makes to the lives of those who are most marginalised. These cuts will have devastating consequences, including for people with disabilities – one billion of whom live in low- and middle-income countries. It will mean less access to health services, less access to vital medicines, less access to education and economic opportunities as well as vital humanitarian assistance. To some it will be a matter of life and death.

This Government came to power with a manifesto and mandate that pledged to demonstrate leadership on the global agenda to “create a world free from poverty on a liveable planet”.

That pledge lies broken now.

We would urge the UK Government to urgently reinstate the previous aid commitments made.
