Help put the world in focus

Six-year-old Bandana from rural Nepal, South Asia, was born blind because of cataracts in both of her eyes.

Access to surgery to restore her sight was completely out of reach. For many of the most marginalised people, access to basic healthcare in Nepal is almost impossible.

Bandana spent her life in darkness, never seeing the faces of her mother and father, Lila and Jogendra, clearly.

“Because we have no money, we were not able to afford treatment,” Bandana’s parents told us.

Nepal, Nigeria and beyond

Two-month-old Safiya from Nigeria, West Africa, was born blind because of cataracts. Her mother, Mariam, is also visually impaired, and she was determined for her daughter to see clearly.

“I want Safiya to see… I want her to go to school,” Mariam told us.

Thanks to life-changing cataract surgery at CBM’s partner hospital in Nigeria, Safiya’s sight was restored. Now, she has a future full of opportunities; she can go to school, see her brothers, and play.

Make a life-changing difference

Khadijat, fourteen, Jamila, twelve, and Isah, nine, live in Nigeria, West Africa. Although all three children began their education, sight loss, caused by cataracts, soon became problematic – threatening their schooling, their ability to play with friends, and their right to a childhood free from treatable blindness.

“Whenever the children came back from school, they would complain about not seeing anything and experiencing eye pain” – Jamilu, their father.
