Kenya is a key economic, transport, and communications hub in East Africa. However, in recent years, the country has faced its worst drought in decades due to multiple seasons of failed rains. People with disabilities have been among the hardest hit, facing even greater challenges in accessing healthcare, education, and employment.
Despite these challenges, progress has been made in advancing disability rights. In 2007, Kenya was among the first countries to sign the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The government’s National Council for Persons with Disabilities continues to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, yet stigma and discrimination remain significant obstacles.
