Halimat had obstetric fistula – a hole in the birth canal which causes incontinence - after giving birth in 2014. What followed was eight years of trauma.

“I noticed that I couldn’t control my urine anymore, so it comes frequently.” Halimat had to use adult nappies to ensure she didn’t leak urine or smell.

Telling others made her feel ashamed and embarrassed. “I tried hard to not let the problem overwhelm me,” she said, but she lived with discomfort and anxiety for years.

A gift from you means that women who are living with obstetric fistula can receive the medical help they need. Surgery will restore not only their health, but their livelihoods and independence.

Together we can make sure that many more women like Halimat have the opportunity to fulfil their potential – to live life fully. Will you make a gift today?

It’s heartbreaking to know that some women have been living with the devastating impacts of obstetric fistula for years, even decades.Penelope Wilton, Actor and Friend of CBM

"More than 150,000 women are living in with obstetric fistula in Nigeria simply because they don’t have access to quality maternal healthcare services. This debilitating condition leaves women isolated and alone, stigmatised by their communities, all because of a medical condition that can be treated.

It’s heartbreaking to know that some women have been living with the devastating impacts of obstetric fistula for years, even decades. This is why the work of CBM and their partners in Nigeria is vital, and they need your support today to reach women living in some of the world’s poorest communities."
